Wilhelm Trübner, an important member of the Munich “Leiblkreis” (circle of Wilhelm Leibl), was intensively occupied with 19th century pathos formulas and various mythological themes in addition to landscape and portrait painting. His studio community and long friendship with Carl Schuch stimulated the work of both artists.
